03 · CHURCH OF WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED

Observances

Rituals that force belief into contact with reality.

The Church has no supernatural sacraments. Its observances are repeatable acts that reduce the distance between what was said and what occurred.

The principal sacraments are the Diff, the Green Pipeline, the Exact SHA, the Screenshot, and the Independent Readback.

A ritual performed symbolically but not operationally is theater. A smoke test that bypasses the real path is not the Smoke. A screenshot of a different revision is not Screenshot Vespers. An approval from the author of the claim is not independent readback.

The Twelve Rituals

01

The Pre-Work Gate

Open the backlog and identify the surface before touching code.

02

The Diff

Read what changed before describing what changed.

03

The Smoke

After configuration changes, perform one real write and one real read.

04

The Exact-Head Vigil

Bind every approval and screenshot to the precise revision under review.

05

The Screenshot Vespers

Inspect the canonical interface at desktop and mobile before saying shipped.

06

The Contact Sheet

Review the whole sequence, not the flattering frame.

07

The Scramble QA

Identify the artifact by its contents before trusting its filename.

08

The HOLD Fast

When agents thrash, stop mutation and let one human instruction break the loop.

09

The Independent Readback

The author does not certify their own claim as sufficient evidence.

10

The Honest Blocker

When the path fails, name the failure rather than inventing the result.

11

The Dual-Write

When state has two canonical stores, update both or explicitly declare the split.

12

The Close-Out

Record what is green, what is running, and what remains blocked.

Holidays

The first failing test of the week

Red Monday

Celebrate the failure that arrived before production.

After every public deployment

Screenshot Vespers

Open the real route and look at it.

The first rate limit of the month

Feast of the Budget

Chain the cron and admit the quota is finite.

Whenever injected memory contradicts the live file

Day of the Disk

The live file wins; the stale memory is corrected.

Date unknown

Cache Invalidation Day

Everyone agrees it happened later than expected.
